Internet and Education

Lesson 16 The Internet also called the Net, is the largest and far-flung network system-of-all system The internet is not really a network but a loosely organized collection of about 25,000 networks accessed by computers on the world.

Many people warn of the possible harmful effects of using technology in the classroom. Will children lose their ability to relate to other human beings? Will they become dependent on technology to learn? Will they find inappropriate materials? The same was probably said with the invention of the printing press, radio, and television. All of these can be used inappropriately, but all of them have given humanity unbounded access to information which can be turned into knowledge. Appropriately used-- interactively and with guidance-- they have become tools for the development of higher order thinking skills.
Inappropriately used in the classroom, technology can be used to perpetuate old models of teaching and learning. Students can be "plugged into computers" to do drill and practice that is not so different from workbooks. Teachers can use multimedia technology to give more colorful, stimulating lectures. Both of these have their place, but such use does not begin to tap the power of these new tools.
In this area, you will find descriptions of how computers can be used to

Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol

ž   To gain access to the internet, the computer must be equipped with what is called server which has a special software(program)that uses the internet protocol.
ž  Server- is part of a computer network which does a particular task, for example storing the data or process information, for all or part of the network.
ž  The Internet Protocol (IP) is the principal communications protocol used for relaying datagrams (packets) across an internetwork using the Internet Protocol Suite. Responsible for routing packets across network boundaries, it is the primary protocol that establishes the Internet.
  Getting to the Net
ž  The vast sea of information now in the Internet, including news and trivia.
ž  BROWSERS, wherein the user can use a mouse to point  and click on screen icons to surf the Internet
ž  World Wide Web-an internet’s subsets of text, images, and sounds are linked together to allow uses to access data or information needed.
ž  Educational Software materials have also developed both in sophistication and appeal.
ž  There is now wider choice from rote arithmetic or grammar lessons to new discovery innovations projects.

REFLECTION:
The informative way of learning in a far-flung transitions of a vast information our net environment was the best and sophisticated aspect of getting well known of a certain things and being connected to one’s life by the use of different social hub were looking closer to no boundaries interface approach of communications all over in the entire global systems of interaction. The connectivity of reliable information through the use of network is power by our hands by clicking and by virtual navigating.
